Sebright is a two form entry primary school with a nursery which has sixty part time places. At Sebright we follow the local authority admissions procedure.
All admissions, except those to Nursery, are managed by Hackney Education. More information can be found on Hackney Education website or by telephoning on 020 8820 7150 or 8820 7401.
Places for Nursery can be applied for at the school office. Our Nursery can provide places for 30 pupils in the morning from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 30 pupils in the afternoon from 12.30 until 3.30 p.m. We have an allocation for full time nursery places. Full time places are funded by the government for working parents. More information on criteria and the funding process can be found below.
Parents are welcome to visit the school prior to contacting Hackney Education. Please visit the School Tours page, contact Shahidul Alom on 020 7739 6531 or email us on admin@sebright.hackney.sch.uk to make an appointment. An available member of the Senior Leadership Team will take them on a tour of the school and answer any questions.
Once children have been offered a place at Sebright, there will be a planned home visit and then the parents/carers will be invited in to complete the necessary admissions paperwork. Documentary evidence such as child’s Birth Certificate and proof of their current address will be photocopied and kept on file.
Nursery
Places for Nursery can be applied for at the school office. Our Nursery provides places for up to 120 children - 60 am (9am – 12pm) and 60 pm (12.30pm – 3.30pm). As part of the 120 part time pupils, we have an allocation for full time nursery places per day. Full time places can either be funded, based on certain criteria, or paid for and run from 9am until 3.30p.m. For further information on full time places please speak to the school office.
30 hours FREE childcare for some 3 and 4 year olds
From September 2017 some working parents will be eligible for an additional 15 hours of free childcare for their 3 and 4 year olds. These families will be able to access up to 30 hours of free childcare a week.
If you are eligible for 30 hours free childcare you can access this offer in the school term after your child’s third birthday.
- if their birthday is before 1 September, they can start in the autumn term
- if their birthday is before 1 January, they can start in the spring term
- if their birthday is before 1 April, can start in the summer term
Who is eligible?
You may be eligible for 30 hours of free childcare if your circumstances are as follows:
- Both parents are earning or expect to earn the equivalent to 16 hours at National Minimum or Living Wage over the coming three months.
- This equates to £120 a week (or about £6,000 a year) for each parent over 25 years old or £112.80 a week (or about £5,800 a year) for each parent between 21 and 24 years old. (These rates were correct in March 2017. National Minimum/Living Wage rates change every April. Please check the Gov.uk website).
- This applies whether you are in paid employment, self-employed or on zero hours contract.
- The parent (and their partner where applicable) should be seeking the free childcare to enable them to work.
- Where one or both parents are on maternity, paternity, shared parental or adoption leave, or if they are on statutory sick leave.
- Where one parent meets the income criteria and the other is unable to work because they are disabled, have caring responsibilities or have been assessed as having limited capability to work.
- Where a parent is in a ‘start-up period’ (i.e. they are newly self-employed) they do not need to demonstrate that they meet the income criteria for 12 months.
- If a non-EEA national, the parent must have recourse to public funds.
Who will not qualify?
A parent will not meet the criteria when:
- Either parent has an income of more than £100,000
- Either parent is a non-EEA national and subject to immigration control (and has no recourse to public funds)
How to apply
To find out if you are eligible for 30 hours free childcare, you can apply now on the Childcare Service. You will need your national insurance number and, where applicable, your partner’s national insurance number to fill in the application form.
Eligible parents will receive a code which must be given to the school in order for your child to receive 30 hours.
This process must be completed before the start of each school term in order to receive a funded place.
All other children will be considered for a part-time place (15 hours per week).
